OUR STORY

Our story begins in the late 1800s, when believers from Union Street Baptist Church in Kingston felt called to bring the gospel to the growing community of Hampton Wick. Evangelistic work started in 1879, and in 1905 a small, plain chapel was built on Upper Teddington Road. Though modest in appearance, Hampton Wick Baptist Church quickly became a place of vibrant worship, faithful Bible teaching, and community outreach.

The church’s roots run deep. From its earliest days, Sunday Schools flourished, families were welcomed, and the gospel was proclaimed to neighbours and newcomers alike. The fellowship weathered the storms of two world wars, economic hardships, and shifting cultural landscapes. During World War II, the church building was requisitioned as an emergency Rest Centre for anyone made homeless by the war.

Over the decades, Hampton Wick Baptist Church became known as a faithful witness in Southwest London.

In 2024, God opened the doors for a new season in Hampton Wick. The Lord called the Wash family from Southern California to join this story — to shepherd the church into its next chapter.

From the first small meetings in rented rooms to the ministry we carry forward today, the heart remains the same to make disciples of all nations.

We are praying On the Thames as it is in Heaven. And we invite you to be part of the story.

The woman is on the left, wearing a yellow dress with floral patterns, the man is on the right, wearing brown pants and a black jacket, holding a young child with blonde hair dressed in a gray jacket and brown pants.

We recite a testimony liturgy at our Sunday gatherings reminding us that we are a part of a bigger story that God is writing. Join us in the renewal of all things.

  • Holy Father, you write our stories and hold all things together. All I have and am belong to You, bought with the blood of Jesus. I am determined to listen to your Spirit and witness your power to the world.

    Amen
